The Аn-26 is a modified version of the cargo on the basis of the An-24.

The first flight of the An-26 took place in 1969, and mass production began in 1970.

An-26 is designed to transfer cargo on short-haul and medium-haul. Large cargo door in the original design of the rear fuselage can carry up to 5500 kg payload. The plane can take different technique, even such as cars and trucks.

Unloading of the AN-26 can be expressed by means of the conveyor and crane, but if it is not possible to land at the destination the goods may be landed by parachute.

High quality takeoff and landing characteristics allow it to operate all the year round on dirt, grass, gravel, sand, snow and sodden airfield relatively small size.

Aircraft instrumentation and radio equipment of the An-26 can operate it in simple and intricate meteorological conditions, during day and night.

An-26 is highly resistant, easy to operate, easy piloting and good visibility from the cockpit, making it available to pilots of average skill.

A modification of the production airplane An-26 are the An-26B and An-26RV.
