English language training for aviation personnel

No doubt, aviation has significantly removed communication borders between the people, and that is why, when flying internationally, one common language has gained so much importance. No matter if they fly domestically or internationally, English is the only language to be used by pilots. Success and safety of flights largely depend upon proficiency in both plain and aviation English.

Here at FTC, you will always be able to successfully master the aviation English language and to raise its level. Experienced teachers shall render you every possible assistance in the language acquisition and maintaining proficiency at the appropriate level.

You’ll become skilled in using the language! At your service are multimedia system, computers, course manuals for different airmen categories, conversational and aviation audio recordings, radiotelephony recordings, as well as – and this is what makes us unique — the language laboratory enabling you to master audition and speaking most efficiently.

Aviation English language training is offered in the following domains:

Initial training in the rules of radio contact and radio communication phraseology in English for aviators performing international flights (pilots, air navigators).

The course covers general (aviation) English and radio communication phraseology in English (first stage).

Completion of the first stage lays background for completion of the second stage, which covers air navigation services of international flights and aeronautical information publications (JEPPESEN and others).

Recurrent training in the rules of radio contact and radio communication phraseology in English for aviators performing international flights (pilots, air navigators).

The program covers four thematic blocks:

  • general and business lexis,
  • English radiotelephony phraseology,
  • terms and abbreviations used in JEPPESEN airway manuals,
  • radiotelephony in adverse meteorological conditions and emergencies.

Aviation English to achieve the 4-th (operational) level of English according to ICAO language proficiency rating scale.

The Course is divided into stages:

  • from 1-st to 2-nd level and from 2-nd to 3-d level – 150 hours each;
  • from 3-d to 4-th level – 200 hours.

 ICAO’s Aviation English Language Test to assess aviation English proficiency in accordance with ICAO rating scale.

Comprises 8-hour pre-test preparation on all aspects of test procedures, ICAO language proficiency criteria, and the test proper. The testing results in the assessment of candidate’s language proficiency against ICAO Rating Scale for the purposes of further entry into the pilot’s or navigator’s license.
